The Aquaculture Department reaches out to Career Guidance Teachers

25-04-2024 – A one-day workshop was held at the Seychelles Maritime Academy for career guidance teachers from schools across Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue. This workshop held on Tuesday 23rd April, was organized by the Aquaculture Department to enhance the knowledge of the teachers about the aquaculture industry and its different career opportunities. The purpose of the event was to help the teachers better prepare their students for a career in this developing industry.

This workshop aligns with the Human Capital Development Plan (HCDP), which is a 20-year projection of the human resource requirements of the aquaculture industry. The HCDP outlines not only the labor needs but also suggests ways to prepare the population for these jobs.

During the workshop, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the life cycles of various species and how aquaculture facilitates the different stages. They also had the chance to ask questions about the topic. The session concluded with a visit to the facilities, which included the newly commissioned containerized echinoderm hatchery.

The teachers shared their gratitude for the session, as it provided them with the tools to convey more detailed information to their students. The session also gave them an insight into the different programs that the government is supporting, particularly those related to the fisheries industry.
