SFA pledges R1.75 million to December 7 Disaster Relief Fund |15 December 2023
The Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA) has expressed its sadness following the devastating effects of the December 7 calamities on the nation.
In a press release issued yesterday, SFA stated that as one of the key state-owned enterprises in Seychelles, it stands ready to assist the national effort in recovery and support to people impacted by the events of December 7.
“In support of key partners and the community that has regrettably fallen victim, the Authority has pledged a sum of R1,750,000 to the December 7 Disaster Relief Fund,” it stated.
The SFA said it recognises that a large proportion of institutions affected have a direct role in the fisheries sector and this is of utmost concern to the Authority.
“It is also clear that many fishers from the impacted regions were also affected by the events of last week. Despite SFA itself having sustained considerable damage to some if its properties, the Authority has decided to shoulder the many affected as the growth and sustainability of the fisheries sector and the community it serves depends on our collective effort and strength,” the statement added.
“I would like to first express our sadness towards the recent events that have impacted our nation. I commend the government for the swift actions taken on its part to immediately alleviate the hardships being faced by those affected. We are further encouraged to see how the spirit of togetherness has transcended into other individual and collective support from all sections of our society,” said Jan Robinson, chief executive of SFA.
SFA has also wished all businesses, families and the community much resilience and a speedy recovery.
